Formulating Laws of Consciousness
The need to put the study of Consciousness on an equal footing with any other value-neutral scientific discipline is necessary to subvert the monopoly of its study away from religious groups or cults, and the writers of 'motivational' books such as 'The Law of Attraction'. How can we do this however, when Consciousness, by its very nature, is holistic and non-dual, and resisting of scientific dissection? How can we use consciousness to study itself? My approach is to use 'operational definitions', and rather than speculate futilely about its intrinsic nature ('What it is'), try instead to describe how it operates, and how consciousness is structured, or more precisely , how consciousness structures everything, because, as we shall see, the Universe is in fact structured out of Consciousness. I intend to start by examining previous attempts to describe how consciousness is structured by positing a handful of easily-grasped abstract Laws governing its operation. I hope to steer clear of the rock of religious doctrine and the whirlpool of emotive subjective experience. I also hope to avoid pseudo-scientific speculation, such as is found in many writers on the subject, who seem to think the mere mention of the phrase 'quantum physics', is enough to establish a scientific pedigree. I also hope to avoid impenetrable nonsense/ 'scientific' jargon, and inaccessible subjective flights of fancy, such as we might find, for example, in Terence McKenna's 'Invisible Landscape'. My aim is to enuniciate a handful of laws , along the lines of , say, Newton's laws, that, although simple and easy to understand in themsleves, nevertheless enable practitioners to explain and comprehend many seemingingly disparate phenomena, such as telepahy, persistence of consciousness after death, travel though spirit worlds, and ultimately the process of creation itself.
