Yoga, pathway to the dissolution of duality
Synopsis:
Information session to begin with summarizing Yoga philosophy and the ultimate esoteric path to awakening deeper states of consciousness and connectedness. In light of the last few years of research done at the John Hopkins institute and their UK equivalent, identifying areas of the brain which are actually switched off during the effects of entheogens removing a sense of individualism, we aim to introduce Yogic techniques which equally create the sense of heightened connectedness, similar to that of an hallucinogenic experience. Tools are given through Hatha practical sessions, focusing on postures and pranayama (breathing techniques) which rebalance the hormonal system and strengthen the nervous system to prepare the body to withstand higher energetic work, and ultimately aim towards the dissolution of our individuality perpetuated by the ego mind which keeps us within a state of duality.
Bio:
Michele Maselli bio: Michele has been practicing Yoga since 1995, and teaching professionally since 2007. He came to Yoga like many do, trying a class here and there and feeling the immediate measurable benefits of increased well being. Over the years his practice deepened studying in India and Thailand (having spent 8 years living in Thailand) with several different teachers. He was also interested in the philosophy of Yoga and it’s process of allowing us to access deeper states of being which has been a passion for much of his life. In 2006 Michele commenced his teacher training program committing himself deeper to the path. Whilst having trained to teach in the Gita style, Michele has studied various other traditions of Yoga such as Iyengar, Astanga and Sivananda and embraces all forms, which shows in his eclectic style of teaching. He has taught in many diverse situations, which allows him to be sensitive to his students needs. Aside from teaching regular corporate classes, Michele also teaches in fitness centres, Yoga studios, council initiated classes aswell as more specialized classes such as for the elderly, children and regular classes at the Youth Justice Centre. In 2010 Michele started hosting his first weekend retreats and has since clocked a few of these under his belt as well as a recent full week retreat in Thailand to encourage students to go deeper into the practice, and ultimately into their own psyches. He runs his own weekly classes at the Australian Shiatsu College in Brunswick. When not practicing Yoga on a mat, Michele applies his Yoga to his artwork, music, family and travel.
Bill Walsh bio: Bill graduated from Gita Yoga in 2007 with a commitment to honouring the student and the time they had set aside to practise. Bill has gone on to teach 1000’s of hours everywhere from health and yoga studios and sporting clubs to adult and youth prisons. With a strong belief in creating community through yoga, he runs programs for several councils. Yoga has been a source of transformation in his own life. Bill employs static and balance postures supported by a flowing vinyasa style with an emphasis on each student being guided by their own breath. Bill is currently continuing his studies in the Krishnamacharya lineage at Agama yoga centre.
