Itzcoatl (Obsidian Serpent)

Temazcal - Mexican Ceremonial Sweat Lodge
Synopsis:
The Temazcal is an ancient ceremony of purification that works with the four elements to heal the body mind and spirit. We start with a ritual to call in the four directions of the universe, and a spiritual cleansing with copal, a traditional tree resin. It is held in a small dome made of branches that represents the womb of the Mother Earth, and the fire represents our Father Sun. The Grandmothers are the volcanic rocks that are heated and brought into the centre of the dome in four rounds. A herbal tea with healing plants is poured onto these to create an infused sauna. Ometeotl, the creative energy and great spirit, is called upon with song and chanting throughout the ceremony. This is a ritual to reconnect with yourself and strengthen the spirit, going past your comfort zone and deeply cleansing. Please bring a sarong to wear inside and a towel or blanket to stay warm afterwards, it is best to drink lots of water during the day and no food for four or five hours before we start.
